How to Get More Food in Frostpunk 2

As a survival city-building strategy game, Frostpunk 2 requires you to manage your resources effectively or risk losing everything to the encroaching cold. One aspect of the game that will prove problematic for many new players is food production. You must balance the production of other resources, a growing population, and food output. It’s a challenge, but here’s how to get more food in Frostpunk 2!

How to Produce More Food in Frostpunk 2

First and foremost, know that your Central District will always produce a certain amount of food. It’s not usually enough to stave off hunger and satisfy your entire populace, but it’s a good starting point. From there, you can expand food production by constructing Food Districts, which require fertile ground beneath the ice.

How do you reach fertile ground? By Frostbreaking. If you hold down ‘ALT’ on your keyboard, you’ll pull up an overlay that displays all the resource nodes surrounding your city. Focus on the food icons, which are the leaves. They’ll indicate where you can grow food using your Food District.

As with all other Districts, try to build your Food production facility over as many fertile ground nodes as possible to maximize efficiency and produce more at once.

Occasionally, you may need to force your workers to take on Emergency Shifts, increasing production but reducing overall trust, and you run the risk of additional injuries. It’s a gamble, but it’s well worth the risk if you’re on the verge of starvation!

You can stockpile a lot of food at once. By default, your food stockpile sits at around 50,000 during the campaign, which will take a long time to reach. Once you start to hit this point, you can construct a Food Stockpile Hub from the Hub Construction menu on the bottom-right of the HUD, increasing the amount of food you can stockpile by an additional 50,000.

You’ll likely only need one or two during a single mission, but in Utopia Builder—the game’s sandbox mode—you’ll likely play long enough to require additional Hubs for a long-term settlement.
