How to Get the Hunter’s Rifle

The Hunter’s Rifle in Starfield is one of the best weapons in the game. It belongs to one of the game’s two main antagonists, Hunter. The character is considered a favorite among players because of his personality.

The game being a Bethesda RPG, allows players to take any path on their journey. However, there is only one way to get to the Hunter’s Rifle in Starfield: by reaching the game’s epilogue and making a tough choice.

‘Unearthed’ is one of the final main missions in Starfield.

Starfield is breathtaking because it lets you experience an in-game world that takes the term ‘lived-in’ to another level. The game’s world has humans and other species of flora and fauna, a lot of planets, space stations, and celestial bodies to explore.

However, as you progress with the game’s main questline, your journey will lead you to square one. Surprisingly, you will return to Earth, where it all began and eventually ended.

You will learn of the events that created current circumstances in the game’s world. This will happen when you reach a quest ironically named ‘Unearthed’ and only towards the end.

To reach this quest you would have to complete the quest ‘In Their Footsteps’. Optionally you can also complete ‘Final Glimpses’ which is the last step in the ‘Unearthed’ quest to save some time wandering between planets and looking at loading screens.

You will need to talk to the Emissary to trigger dialogue options that lead to the Hunter’s Rifle.

As stated in the Intro, you have to make the right choice if you wish for the Hunter’s Rifle aka Unmitigated Violence. Once you reach the last stand of the ‘Unearthed’ Quest in Starfield, you will be tasked to ‘Talk to the Emissary’.

Upon talking to the Emissary towards the end, you will be presented with a key dialogue choice. There will be three alternatives here: siding with the Emissary, siding with the Hunter, or siding with none of them and telling them that they are both wrong.

Here you need to either side with the Emissary unter or take both of them on in an epic battle to get the Hunter’s Rifle. Either way, once you finish either Hunter or both of them, they will be down with their weapons.

Once you defeat the Hunter by siding with the Emissary or not siding with either of them, you can get The Hunter’s rifle.

Once that happens, you can go up to one or both of their corpses, look down, and see that you can now loot the Unmitigated Violence (Hunter’s Rifle). These are the only two scenarios in which you can get it.

It wasn’t ideal that Bethesda‘s latest didn’t live up to expectations on release but the game hosts an amazing boss fight at the end. Also considering that Shattered Space will be out any time now, it is the perfect time to play it. Make sure that you check our other Starfield guides in case you get stuck.

However, we’d love to know about the choice you made in the ‘Unearthed’ Quest. Did fight both The Hunter and The Emissary or did side with The Emissary to get Unmitigated Violence? Or did you take the third option? Let us know what you did in your playthrough in the comments below!
