How to Get the Lord of Frenzied Flame Ending in Elden Ring?

The Frenzied Flame ending is a polarizing conclusion to Elden Ring.

To get the Elden Ring Lord of Frenzied Flame ending, you will need to acquire the meet with the Three Fingers to inherit the Frenzied Flame. This journey is going to bring you face to face with several bosses that may take special Elden Ring builds to defeat, but some of these fights are essential to complete the game. The Elden Ring Lord of Frenzied Flame ending is also one of the only in the game in which the Tarnished does not become the Elden Lord.

Tip

There is a subquest you can take on to understand more of the lore by finding and offering Hyetta Shabriri Grapes. This is not essential to get the ending, but you will acquire a new Seal for Frenzied Incantations.

The Elden Ring Lord of Frenzied Flame ending is also unique in that it is the only conclusion that will lock you out of other endings. The requirements for all of the other five endings can be done in tandem with one another, but the moment you meet the Three Fingers, you lock yourself into the Elden Ring Lord of Frenzied Flame ending and cannot witness any of the other Elden Ring endings. However, this can be reversed if you have a special item.

Your first step is to find the Three Fingers, and this in itself can be quite a challenge. This isn’t because there are several difficult bosses and enemies along the way. Those are always present in Elden Ring, but finding this aberrant deity requires something every FromSoft fan fears in games from the studio: platforming.

Descend Into the Shunning Grounds Below Leyndell Capital

The Tarnished walking through the subterranean shunning grounds.
The Subterranean Shunning Grounds is where you must start to get the Elden Ring Lord of Frenzied Flame ending.

To access Leyndell Capital, you will need to have defeated two Shardbearers. Which two you defeat is not important, so you can always do the initial two, such as Godrick the Grafted and Queen Rennala. With these two Runes in your possession, it’s not time to face off against the only thing standing between you and entering the Leyndell: the Draconic Tree Sentinel.

Taking him down is no easy task, and you can be sure to fall to him a few times before you can finally deal with his many red lightning attacks. However, this is where the challenge truly begins, as your job is to now make your way through the winding alleys and danger-filled streets of the Capital until you come upon the entrance to the Subterranean Shunning Grounds.

You can find your way here by starting from the Avenue Balcony site of grace in the Capital and going down the stairs. Take a left immediately out of the double grate doors and move northwest along the railings until the rooftops are to your left. Jump onto the rooftop, descend to the plaza, and find the well between a dilapidated ruin and a walkway. This is the entrance to the underground location and you are one step closer to unlocking one of the Elden Ring endings.

Reaching the Frenzied Flame Requires Descending to Unexplored Depths

The Tarnished taking the lift down to the Cathedral of the Forsaken.
The lift will take you down to face a surprise boss you meet elsewhere on the map.

Working your way through the sewers can be difficult, as there are several winding paths, and many enemies eager to knock you off the narrow pipes. The area is also filled with Omens who prove to be formidable foes, performing destiny melee attacks and even utilizing magic at range. You will also encounter several Imps, Fingercrawlers, and even a Lobster.

You will find yourself working through several different areas that you find by unlocking new doors, ascending ladders to new locations, and even working your way through the insides of the labyrinth of pipes littered around the area. The Omens will pop up at regular intervals as well, and can easily send you back to the first site of grace in the area if you are not careful.

After enough exploring, you will come upon a metal lift that will take you further down to the entrance of the Cathedral of the Forsaken. This is the final leg of the journey to find the Three Fingers, but it’s also the most challenging. Aside from the aforementioned parkour challenge, players will also need to take down a certain Lord of Blood to witness the Elden Ring Lord of Frenzied Flame ending.

Defeat Mohg and Witness the Horrors Wrought by the Golden Order

The Tarnished standing atop a wqooden plank to make his way to the Frenzied Flame.
The path to the Frenzied Flame is as maddening as the flame itself.

Mohg the Omen is not found only at the end of Moghwyn’s Palace, as he can also be faced under Leyndell Capital. This appears to be a similar projection as used by Morgott appearing as Margit in Stormveil Castle, as this version of Mohg is not able to use the Nihil move. That doesn’t mean he’s an easy fight, and players not prepared for him can face a stiff challenge.

He will use many of the same moves as the original, who must be beaten to access the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, so you can utilize many of the same strategies to take him down. Once defeated, you can open the chest to acquire the Erdtree’s Favor+1 Talisman, and then reveal the hidden path behind this chest by striking the stone crypt.

As you descend further into the Cathedral of the Forsaken, you will witness what has happened to many of the merchants from Kale’s tribe. While most have perished, others are husks who will attack you with Frenzy attacks if aggravated. This is a hint you’re on the right path for the Elden Ring Lord of Frenzied Flame ending.

Once you approach the planks, you will have to begin your descent with some nimble footing. Make use of running jumps and rolls to land on the stone coffins jutting out of the wall without falling to your death. This might take several tries to accomplish, and you may even feel like giving up after a few dozen attempts. However, this is the only route by which you can gain an audience with the Three Fingers and witness one of the more chaotic Elden Ring endings.

Tip

If you feel a jump is too far when standing on a coffin, look below, you will usually find a platform that you can reach with a simple roll.

After you reach the bottom, you can jump on the false floor to finally arrive at the Frenzied Flame Proscription site of grace. This is also an alternate route to access the Deeproot Depths if you wish to follow Fia’s questline.

The Three Fingers Only Meet with Wretches

Remove all your equipment if you wish to gain an audience with the Three Fingers.

Arriving at this site of grace before facing the Fire Giant and setting into motion the burning of the Erdtree will grant an audience with Melina. She will advise you against going through with this, stating that such an action would pit the two of you against each other, emphasizing how the Frenzied Flame is truly a taboo force in the Land’s Between.

Tip

If you decide to proceed past this point, you will be locked into the Frenzied Flame ending without a key item.

You must now unequip all of your gear before approaching the large doors and entering the room. A cinematic will showcase the Three Fingers and how they pass on the Frenzied Flame to you. You are now the bearer of the Flame and can bring about the Age of Chaos with this inheritance.

If not already done, you must now travel to the Mountaintop of the Giants and defeat the Fire Giant before progressing to the Forge of the Giants. Here, instead of Melina, you can set the Erdtree ablaze with the Frenzied Flame yourself. You are now ready to take down the final few bosses needed for the Elden Ring Lord of Frenzied Flame ending.

Quell the Frenzied Flame with Miquella’s Needle

Miquella’s Needle is the only way to eliminate the effects of the Flame.

If you feel like you would no longer wish to go through with the Elden Ring Lord of Frenzied Flame ending, then you will need to visit Caelid and defeat Commander O’Neil in the Aeonia Swamp. You can bring this broken item to Gowry in Caelid, who will fix it for you and request that you give it to the ailing Millicent. Completing her questline is a lengthy process, but finds its conclusion in the Haligtree location.

At the end of her quest, you will acquire the Unalloyed Golden Needle once again, which you will need to bring to the Scarlet Aeonia left behind after defeating Malenia, Blade of Miquella. Using the Needle on this Aeonia will grant the player Miquella’s Needle.

With this new needle in hand, you will need to clear through Crumbling Farum Azula until you can enter Dragonlord Placidusax’s arena. After entering, use the needle anywhere in the arena to repeal the effects of the Frenzied Flame and gain access to all the other endings. You do not need to defeat Placidusax to get out of the Elden Ring Lord of Frenzied Flame ending.

However, if you still wish to watch the world burn, skip this step and head to the final boss encounters.

Defeat Godfrey, Radagon, and Elden Beast to set the World Ablaze

The player witnessing the Lord of the Frenzied Flame ending for Elden Ring.
Elden Ring Lord of the Frenzied Flame ending is one of the more visually bombastic conclusions.

As is the case with all the other Elden Ring endings, you will need to defeat Godfrey, First Elden Lord, Radagon of the Golden Order, and the Elden Beast to finally beat the game. You will have a chance to recover your flasks after beating Godfrey, but you need to be mindful during the final battle as Radagon and Elden Beast are a two-for-one special.

With all three down, you are now free to bring about the Age of Chaos and the Elden Ring Lord of Frenzied Flame ending. Touch the Fractured Marika and choose to become the Lord of Frenzied Flame. If Melina spoke with you before you met with the Three Fingers, you will gain an extra cinematic where she vows to deliver Destined Death onto you.

The Lord of Frenzied Flame ending is one of the more controversial of the six you can unlock in Elden Ring, and this is due to its implications on the world. However, it’s a unique ending that leaves us with more questions than answers. Which ending is your favorite in the game?
