How to Get the Prayer Room Key

Learning how to get the Prayer Room Key is an essential part of completing the quest for Fire Knight Queelign, a brand new NPC introduced in the Elden Ring DLC Shadow of the Erdtree.

If you’re interested in learning about this character or just want his weapon or summon, our guide will teach you everything you need to know to get this key item and progress through his quest. We’ll also throw in some tips to make the hard parts easier, so strap in.

What Is the Prayer Room Key?

The Prayer Room Key unlocks an important area for Fire Knight Queelign’s quest.

The Prayer Room Key is critical for completing the quest for NPC Fire Knight Queelign, a loyal devotee of Marika.

The key opens the prayer room to the Church District in Shadow Keep, which you can access before draining the whole area by navigating the rooftops and dropping through a hole in the roof.

In the DLC, you’ll be invaded by Queelign twice, after which he appears inside the prayer room. Here, you’ll decide his fate depending on what item you give him, and in turn, you’ll be rewarded differently too.

We won’t spoil the entire quest, but you’ll need to give him either an Iris of Occultation or an Iris of Grace in this room. Giving him the former will reward you with Queelign’s Greatsword, while the latter will get you his Spirit Ash.

There’s really no wrong answer here, so you can go with what you like. But before you even make a decision, you need to know the Prayer Room Key location. Not to worry, we’ll give you all the Elden Ring help you’ll need to obtain and use this item.

How to Get the Prayer Room Key

The Prayer Room Key is obtained from the quest’s key NPC, Queelign.

To get the Prayer Room Key, you must start Queelign’s quest. Depending on what kind of person you are, you might be pleased to know that you don’t need to sit through a ton of dialogue or talk to several people all over the land to begin it.

The only thing you need to do is go to the Belurat Tower Settlement, which might have been the first legacy dungeon you explored in the Elden Ring DLC.

From the Small Private Altar Site of Grace, enter the doorway on the right and make your way through the enemies until you see a large open area with a tree in the center.

When you enter this area, Queelign will suddenly invade you, and this automatically triggers the start of this quest. He might take a few tries, as the reach his weapon has is quite long, but like with most other invaders, he gets staggered quite easily and most of his attacks can be dodged.

After you defeat him, he’ll drop the Crusade Insignia talisman. You need to be invaded by him again, this time at the Church of Crusade, located southwest of the Shadow Keep’s main entrance at the tip of the region.

The advice from the previous fight stands here; having something like the Gourmet Scorpion Stew from Grandam can help you end it quicker. When you defeat him here, he drops the Prayer Room Key.

Now, you can go to the Church District in Shadow Keep and unlock the door that you come across after jumping through a hole in one of the flooded buildings. Inside, you’ll find Queelign. Give him one of the Irises we mentioned previously to finish his quest.

Tip

The Iris of Occultation and Iris of Grace can also used for Swordhand of Night Jolán’s quest, an NPC at the Cathedral of Manus Metyr.

In case you don’t have any of the Iris items yet, there are two of each type available in the game. By draining the Church District, you can gain access to one of each.

The Occultation variant is obtained from killing the Lesser Ulcerated Tree Spirit lurking around, while the Grace variant is found at the tall Statue of Marika you come across as you make your way to the Erdtree Avatar boss deep underground.

With that, we’ve reached the end of this walkthrough for the Prayer Room Key. If you found this helpful, let us know what other Elden Ring and Shadow of the Erdtree guides you’d like to see from us in the comments below!
