How to Rename Your Ship

In Starfield, piloting your ship is one of the most exciting parts of the game. Your ship becomes your home and your partner as you explore one of the thousands of planets that the game has to offer.

After a while, though, you might start growing weary of its name and might wonder how to rename your ship. You wouldn’t be alone in this—it’s not uncommon to find yourself wanting to change it and give it a fresh spin after a few adventures.

Maybe the name you chose at first just doesn’t feel right anymore, you lost a dare, or you’ve thought of something cooler. Whatever the reason is, we understand.

Fortunately, renaming your ship is a simple process, and this guide will show you exactly how to go about doing it. Along the way, we’ll also offer some additional ship-related tips to help you on your Starfield journey.

Renaming your ship is a quick and easy affair if you know where to find a Technician.

To rename your ship, you’ll need to visit a Ship Services Technician, an NPC found in most major spaceports and cities across the Settled Systems. Locations like New Atlantis and Cydonia are prime spots to find them, but they’re also present in larger areas like Paradiso and The Den.

Once you’ve found a technician, approach them and initiate a conversation. You’ll want to select the option that allows you to “view and modify your ships.” This will open a menu where you can see all the ships you currently own, either through purchasing or acquiring through ‘forceful’ means (we don’t judge).

From there, highlight the ship you want to rename and press the button prompt to access the Ship Builder. Inside this menu, look for the option marked as the Flight Check. Selecting this will bring up an information box about your ship.

At this point, you’ll have the opportunity to rename it. Check the bottom right to find the button prompt tied to the “Rename Ship” action. Once you’ve entered your new ship name and confirmed it, the change is complete.

It’s as simple as that, allowing you to continue your adventures with a ship name that doesn’t make you recoil in cringe anymore. We’ve also got a guide covering how to dock your ship if you’re looking for more help on the subject.

Unsure where to find Ship Services Technicians? There’s no shortage of them, as they’re spread across a variety of places across Starfield‘s expansive galaxy.

More specifically, these technicians are usually found near Trade Authority Kiosks at spaceports. In major cities like New Atlantis on Jemison or Cydonia on Mars, they’re quite easy to spot. You can also find them in more remote places, such as New Homestead on Titan, the Deimos Staryard, Akila City, and Paradiso.

Smaller locations like The Den in the Wolf System or The Red Mile in the Porrima System also offer ship services. Other locations include Neon, Gagarin Landing, Hopetown, The Eleos Retreat, and The Key in the Kryx System.

Each of these spots provides ship renaming services, along with options to customize your ship, buy new ones, or even sell ships you’ve acquired.

So, if you’re looking for a fresh start with your spacecraft, renaming your ship in Starfield is easy once you know where to go.

Whatever the reason might be behind your decision to change your ship’s name, the Ship Services Technicians across the Settled Systems are ready to help.
