How To Solve the Rotten Area Puzzle in the Labyrinth

When you reach the labyrinth in Silent Hill 2 Remake, you’ll find an abundance of activities and puzzles to solve. You will need to configure the rotating cube to unlock new doors.

You’ll be able to access three distinct areas, each with intricate and very strange puzzles to solve. One of these zones is the rotten area, where you’ll encounter a suspended cage that you must manipulate to descend from the ceiling.

This is a guide on how to solve the rotten area puzzle in Silent Hill 2 Remake. One of the main features of this area is that it will be full of enemies trying to stop you from solving this strange puzzle.

Accessing the Rotten Area in Silent Hill 2 Remake

Once you pass through the door with the previously described symbols, you’ll eventually reach a hallway where there will be three doors to choose from.

To access the rotten area, you must turn left and go through the door with a greener tint. This is the first of the three areas you’ll be able to explore through the cube’s rotation in Silent Hill 2 Remake.

After passing through this area, you’ll need to turn right. Continuing down this strange hallway, where there will be insects everywhere, you’ll have to turn left at one point and always stick to the right side of the wall.

A Strange Cage Suspended in the Air

After completing this task, you will eventually reach a room where a strange cage is suspended in the air. In this room, you’ll also be able to save your progress. Once you save your progress, turn slightly to the left, and you’ll see a door right next to where you saved.

After passing through that door, there will be a sort of grid underneath, and an enemy with a tentacle will try to hit you. The best way to get through this part is not to confront the enemy but rather to crouch occasionally to dodge the tentacle strikes.

As you continue through that area, at one point, you’ll have to turn slightly right and then turn left again. Continue doing this until you encounter a double door, through which you will encounter an enemy.

After defeating the enemy, you’ll need to continue to the back of that room until you find a hole in the wall on the left side. Once you’ve passed through the hole, you’ll find a small orifice at the back of the room where James Sunderland will place his hand. After completing this task, you will retrieve a wick from a lighter located on the wall.

Continuing With the Next Step to Solve This Puzzle

Once you have obtained the first part of the lighter, proceed to the left side of the same room. If you keep walking, you’ll come across a door that needs unlocking.

The next step to solving this puzzle in Silent Hill 2 Remake is to find the iron key. Once you pass through that door, you’ll find yourself in another hallway where enemies will emerge from the floor.

While dodging these enemies and crouching constantly, you must go straight, turn right, continue until you hit a fork in the road, and then turn right again. You’ll pass through a door where there’s an enemy.

Once you’ve defeated the enemy, you’ll need to proceed straight ahead, where you’ll encounter another door on the right side.

You’ll encounter the iron key inside the drawer of the only desk in the room. You’ll need to exit this room and, instead of going back the way you came, head to the right. Once you’ve done this, you’ll come across a wall and need to turn left, where you’ll discover an unlocked door.

After unlocking that door, you’ll find yourself in another hallway with grids on the floor, where you’ll encounter tentacle enemies. You must turn left, then right, and then right again, essentially forming a square with your path. To reach the target room, you’ll need to turn left twice until you find a door.

Now, you’ll find yourself in a room with an enemy in the middle. Once you defeat the enemy, a cart will appear in the middle of the room. You must maneuver this cart to the left of the door you entered just under the wall.

Once you’ve moved the cart to that location, you’ll be able to climb onto it and enter the kitchen. In the fridge, you’ll find the gas for the lighter.

How to Solve the Rotten Area Puzzle in Silent Hill 2

Once you grab the gas canister for the lighter, you’ll need to exit the kitchen and find a door. Once you pass through this door, you’ll find yourself in a small hallway. You’ll need to move some furniture to create space for a hole in the floor, through which you’ll need to crawl.

Once in the new hallway, which also has grids on the floor, you’ll need to go straight until you find a chance to turn right. Once you make that turn, you’ll need to make another turn to the left, where you’ll encounter a key-required door.

You’ll need to use the iron key on that door to unlock it. After passing through that door, you’ll find a bathroom with a bathtub full of water on the left side.

You won’t be able to reach the lighter at the bottom just yet, so proceed to the right, pass through a hole in the wall, and turn on the water valve. This is all done to drain the bathtub and finally retrieve the broken lighter.

Once you leave this bathroom, you’ll have to turn right and return to the area where the suspended cage is.

Finally, to solve this puzzle in Silent Hill 2 Remake, you’ll need to combine the broken lighter with the gas and the wick. Once you’ve done this, the cage will automatically descend, but it will also break through the floor and continue to fall.
