I-77 reopened after a serious crash that killed one, injured another in north Charlotte

CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — One person is dead and another is fighting for their life after a crash on Interstate 77 Friday evening, according to the Mecklenburg EMS Agency (MEDIC).

The incident happened around 4:45 p.m. near mile marker 15, which is between Sunset Road and Lakeview Road, according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT).

MEDIC says one person was pronounced dead by paramedics, and a second person was taken to Atrium CMC with life-threatening injuries.

All southbound lanes were closed until just before 8 p.m. Authorites have not said what led up to the incident.

This tragic wreck came soon after another wreck on I-77 southbound over Lake Norman.
