“If Sony believes it won’t though, it won’t”: Xbox Must Earn Sony’s Trust to Secure Helldivers 2 Port: Reveals Arrowhead Dev

Since the release of Helldivers 2, it has actively sparked discussions within the gaming community, both for its successes and past controversies. Recently the community has reignited their passion for the game over the release of the 60-Day plan from the developers. The game is once again allowing players to enjoy its engaging multiplayer gameplay on PlayStation and PC.

According to Arrowhead Game Studio’s community manager, it looks like developers are already on board, but the ultimate decision lies in Sony’s hands and Xbox’s ability to show its platform’s appeal.

Xbox Users Want to Join the Action in Helldivers 2

While Helldivers 2 has faced its fair share of controversies over the months since its release, the game’s immersive narrative and super-engaging cooperative gameplay have kept it alive and thriving. Recently, gamers have been actively discussing the prospect of the game coming to the rival console, Xbox. Arrowhead has even addressed these questions directly.

The community manager, Twinbeard, clarified on Discord that a port is not currently planned but it is not entirely out of the question, especially given the game’s popularity. However, the challenge lies in earning the publisher’s trust. He said:

It’s not up to us but to Sony and Phil to duke out, but hypothetically speaking, if both partners think it would benefit them from a financial/brand standpoint, it could. If Sony believes it won’t though, it won’t.

This statement highlights the complex relationship between the two console manufacturers and also emphasizes that financial benefits will play a crucial role in any potential collaboration. Historically, Sony has not been very keen to share its exclusives with any platforms, especially with its rivals.

While Microsoft is making strides in fostering a more inclusive environment by releasing its exclusive titles like Indiana Jones and The Great Circle, Hi-Fi Rush, and even Sea of Thieves on other platforms, the same can not be said for PlayStation. This disparity raises concerns for fans who hope to experience Helldivers 2 alongside their friends on other platforms.

Fans are Hoping for a Miracle

While it’s not entirely impossible for Helldivers 2 to come to other consoles, the chances remain very slim (more close to impossible). In recent history, there is only one notable case where Sony has decided to release the game across all the platforms: MLB and it remains the only one to this day.

If Xbox wants to add Helldivers 2 to its library, both the console manufacturers need to identify a mutual benefit in the deal: financial or otherwise. For now, players should focus on enjoying the game’s existing content, exploring guides on warbonds, stratagems, and weapons, and preparing themselves for the upcoming updates on the available platforms.

As the gaming landscape continues to evolve at a rapid pace, there is always a chance for a miracle to happen that will bridge the huge gap between Sony and Xbox, allowing a wider audience to enjoy games across the platforms.
