ā€˜Iā€™m going to dieā€™: Newlywed reveals horror moment wife suffers severe injuries after mower accident just weeks after wedding

A newlywed Aussie has recalled the horrific moment her wife said she thought she was going to die after a gardening accident, which resulted in injuries so severe her leg will need to be amputated by doctors.

Megan McKee and Stephanie Pascoe married in mid-October in a glamorous wedding ceremony with their family and friends, having eloped just a few weeks earlier.

But their newlywed life took a shocking turn after Megan had an accident on a ride-on mower while gardening at their home in the NSW Hunter Region.

Megan suffered ā€œsevereā€ injuries to her leg when the mower went down an embankment.

Megan said she remembered just putting her foot down on the grass at the time of the accident ā€“ before neighbours and emergency services rushed to the scene.

Speaking to Yahoo News Australia, Stephanie recalled the moment her wife said: ā€œIā€™m going to die.ā€

ā€œLooking at her injuries and the amount of blood that was coming out at that time, it probably wasnā€™t a far-fetched thought,ā€ Stephanie told Yahoo News Australia.

ā€œIt almost sliced her entire foot off. It went between a second and third toe and then all the way down to the ankle.ā€

Stephanie said she was ā€œso luckyā€ neighbours jumped into action to help Megan.

ā€œI was just focused on trying to keep her calm,ā€ she said.

Megan was flown to John Hunter Hospital and remains in the care of doctors and hospital staff.

Sarah Chippindale, a marriage celebrant who married Megan and Stephanie, revealed in a GoFundMe that Megan would need to undergo surgery that would result in her leg being amputated.

ā€œWith extended hospital stays, surgeries, rehabilitation, and time away from work ahead, Megs and Steph face a challenging road,ā€ Ms Chippendale said in the GoFundMe, set up to ease the pairā€™s financial burden.

ā€œShe will need a to buy a prosthetic leg as well as a lot of other medical equipment for around the home and hopefully with this funding we can make sure she that has the coolest new leg one on the market.ā€

As of Saturday, the GoFundMe has raised more than $23,000 of its $25,000 goal.

Ms Chippendale said the pair faced a difficult physical and emotional recovery ahead.

ā€œTheir lives have been completely changed,ā€ she said.

ā€œEveryday plans have been turned upside down ā€“ we were even supposed to spend time together this weekend at my place, just enjoying each otherā€™s company.

ā€œNow, thatā€™s been replaced with a path Megs and Steph never could have imagined ā€” a journey of resilience and adjustment.

ā€œThis time of healing will obviously demand their full focus, and financial burdens shouldnā€™t have to add to their worries.ā€
