Is Days Gone Getting a Remaster? Rumors Hint Sony’s Going to Take the Hardest Fall of September at the Next State of Play

The story of Days Gone is unfathomably heartbreaking. Despite the developers pouring their heart and soul into its development, the game just couldn’t receive the support it deserved. With performance issues and an unfortunately buggy launch, Sony’s upper management never seemed interested in giving it a fair shot.

Even though it struggled to win over its publisher, many people now speculate that Sony’s other remaster for the PS5 may just be Days Gone after all. Now, putting all the discourse about these “remasters” to the side for a moment, is it possible that Sony could truly be going down this path?

If Sony announces Days Gone Remaster, many are going to be pissed at the company

The problem with such a promising title as Days Gone was that the bugs and lack of refinement at launch really soured people’s perceptions of the game. This also left the studio with little hope of ever getting greenlit for a sequel.

That said, though, a few recent rumors surrounding Sony’s current plan of action have sparked interest and dread in equal measures for the game.

For those not in the loop, Jeff Grubb recently hinted that Sony might announce an “even less exciting” remaster than Horizon Zero Dawn – that’s a relatively high bar to cross in and of itself.

Interestingly enough, the rumor has led to insane speculation that the game in question could be Days Gone. Now, would it indeed be nice to have a remaster of this game? The answer seems to be no for many people and for many reasons.

It’s bad enough that Sony is focusing too much on overpolishing its PS4 games rather than delivering fresh content, but what makes things much, much worse is that games that do require a remaster—say, Bloodborne and other early titles of the last generations—have all been seemingly abandoned.

Suppose all this speculation about the game turns out to be accurate. In that case, Sony might want to brace itself for even more backlash.

Many want the company to take a different approach and not bring another remaster of a game that, despite its rocky start, never needed one and instead could have used a sequel.

Should a remaster’s possibility rekindle our hopes for a sequel to Days Gone?

If Days Gone is indeed the mysterious “less exciting” remaster, some might see this as a sign of renewed interest in the IP and maybe even hope for a sequel. But, fellas, we’ve been down this road before, haven’t we?

It really can’t be overstated how the developers poured their all into the first game, only for Sony to turn its back on the studio’s pitches back in 2019 and let all the fans’ constant pleas for a sequel fall on deaf ears.

Garvin’s frustration is no secret in all this, either. He’s been really vocal about Sony’s lack of support for Days Gone, and when you think about it, the possibility of a remaster, without a sequel in sight, could be another blow to the man who has long hoped to continue Deacon’s journey.

Just take a look at how Garvin reacted to Deacon’s inclusion in Astro Bot, which was meant to honor the game. Clearly, there are some burned bridges here that may never be restored, no matter what.

With Sony’s excessive focus on remasters, live-service games, and only a few gems like Astro Bot suiting every once in a while nowadays, it’s hard to see how Days Gone 2 would get the approval it needs.

With that said, what are your thoughts on a potential Days Gone remaster? Do you think Sony would ever pay more attention to that game and Bend Studio? Let us know in the comments below!
