Jack Black Wants the Houser Brothers to Stay Together After Getting Too Invested in Red Dead Redemption 2

Emmy Award-winning actor Jack Black is known for his roles in family and comedy movies, in addition to his exceptional work as a voice artist for animated movies. The actor became a household name with High Fidelity in 2000, which led to him landing bigger parts in movies. Black solidified his position as a leading actor in the industry with 2003’s School of Rock and has appeared in movies including Goosebumps, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, The House with a Clock in Its Walls, and more.

Jack Black’s love for Red Dead Redemption 2

Last year, ahead of the release of the Super Mario Bros. movie, Jack Black, in his conversation with the BBC, spoke about video game adaptations and mentioned that in the future, movies and television are going to keep going towards using the stories told in the video games. The actor added that the reason behind it is that the market seems to be growing exponentially.

“The TV and film industries seem to be seeing a little bit of shrinkage. It will be interesting to see what happens to the entertainment industry over the next 20 to 30 years, but I think we will be seeing more storytelling from the gaming universe.”

The actor is himself a massive fan of video games and has his own YouTube channel with a mix of gaming and music content. He shared with the publication that the success of The Last of Us has proven that gaming stories can work in a linear medium. Upon asking what other video game adaptation he’d like to see in the future, Jack Black said,

“Maybe there’s going to be a Red Dead Redemption movie? There should be, because I think that has just as good or an even better story than The Last of Us.”

In his interview with JOE, Jack Black talks about his love for Red Dead Redemption 2 and Tenacious D’s recent release, ‘Video Games‘, in which he sings about how he doesn’t play video games except for Red Dead Redemption 2, Fallout 4, and God of War. He revealed that he hasn’t had the chance to play the game with the latest mods. Jack Black goes on to say,

“The Houser Brothers, right? Dan and Sam Houser, I hope that they keep on working together. I heard that they broke up, and they’re going to be doing video games separately. So, it’s like Coen Brothers.”

Black continued that when there are masterpieces made, as fans, they’d want the creators to stay together, adding that who knows what reasons the Houser Brothers have to do things separately? He noted that he’ll be following whatever the brothers do in the future, for sure.

Jack Black is open to the School of Rock sequel

In an interview with JOE, Jack Black shared that he’s ready for 2003’s School of Rock’s sequel. Jack Black played Dewey in the movie, who becomes a substitute teacher in an uptight elementary school after being kicked out of his rock band. Black, after witnessing the musical talent of the kids, forms a band to attempt to win the Battle of Bands. He said,

“I wish there’d be a ‘School of Rock 2: Electric Boogaloo’. I am ready. You know Mike White wrote the first one, and he’s a genius. And we’d have to have Mike White back in the saddle, but he’s really busy right now with ‘The White Lotus’, the best show on TV.”

Electric Boogaloo is the title of the sequel movie that came out 40 years ago to the movie Breakin. Back in 2022, the actor spoke to ET and noted that the movie remains one of the high points of his career, mentioning that his best memories are just the group of kids and how funny and great they were. He added,

“It’s definitely the highlight of my career. I can say that. Honestly.”

The movie starred Mike White. Joan Cusack, Adam Pascal Sarah Silverman, and more. School of Rock is available to stream on Netflix.
