A Japanese traveller who tried to smuggle more than $44,000 worth of cigarettes into WA has been refused entry after admitting that he intended to sell them.

The man, who was travelling on a tourist visa, was stopped for a baggage check after arriving at Perth Airport from Singapore, with Australian Border Force officers finding 34,620 cigarettes.
