Johan Pilestedt Doesn’t Want Helldivers 2-Star Wars Crossover as It’ll “Dilute the IP”

Arrowhead Game Studios’ Helldivers 2 shares a lot of elements with the popular Star Wars franchise. In the past, Arrowhead’s CCO, Johan Pilestedt, has shared a list of crossovers he would love to work on, but it will never happen as Pilestedt doesn’t want to “dilute the IP.“

Apart from Star Wars, Pilestedt also mentioned franchises like Terminator, Predator, Warhammer 40k, and Blade Runner, but unfortunately, these crossovers will never happen because Pilestedt believes it will take away the true Helldivers 2 experience from the game. The game has made a strong comeback but a lot of new content is required to maintain a steady active player count.

Players Will Never Get A Crossover Between Helldivers 2 And Star Wars

A lot of gamers have compared Helldivers 2 to the Star Wars franchise since they share so many similarities. Many have been eagerly waiting for a collaboration, in fact, some players even came up with mods to make it possible. The crossover certainly sounds exciting but Arrowhead Game Studios’ CCO, Johan Pilestedt, once revealed why it will never happen. In a recent tweet, Pilestedt explained that these types of crossovers would “dilute the IP” and make the game a “not helldivers” experience.

Yeah, but these are just musings, if we were to do all of them, it would dilute the IP and make it a “not helldivers” experience.

Further in the thread, a player suggested that Arrowhead could create Warbonds inspired by these franchises instead of a direct collaboration. Pilestedt acknowledged the idea, stating that it is “a good point of view.“

In another tweet, Pilestedt also revealed that Arrowhead has often discussed bringing massive PvE battles to the game, a session full of 20-30 players fighting bots and bugs together, but due to engine limitations, the idea still can’t come to fruition.

Helldivers 2 Needs Some Fresh Content To Keep Players Hooked

The past month has been good for Arrowhead as they managed to revive Helldivers 2‘s hype after the game lost most of its fanbase. Players criticized the game because Arrowhead nerfed many fan-favorite Stratagems and weapons. Over the past few weeks, the studio has been trying to fix its mess by buffing Stratagems like Flamethrower and Railgun.

The game has become exciting again but Arrowhead still needs to add some new content, particularly a new faction, to the game. Players have got hints about the invasion of the Illuminate, an enemy faction from the first Helldivers game.

At the moment, Arrowhead is focusing on fixing the technical issues, but it needs to move to the next phase soon if it wishes to maintain a steady active player count.
