Johan Prent: Brave neighbour saves four-year-old trapped in burning Ellenbrook home
A brave neighbour who charged into a burning home in Ellenbrook to save a four-year-old boy says he is not a hero.
Johan Prent is being praised for his actions after he ran barefoot into a house fire after hearing screams from a young child.
“I jumped the fence to the back door where I found the owner of the house, tried to help her out, but she was screaming that her kid was still inside the house,” he told 7NEWS.
“The mum was screaming, the little boy was screaming at the start but then kind of went quiet so it was a bit terrifying, so we knew we had to get him out as soon as possible.”
Minutes ticked by as he desperately tried to get inside.
With another Ellenbrook neighbour wielding an axe they got the door down and were faced with a wall of black smoke and flames licking the walls.

The 25-year-old ran barefoot into the home to grab the young boy.
“My only thought was just find the kid and get him out, that’s all I wanted,” he said.
“I turned a bend and saw his leg, I grabbed it and just yanked him, and I was just going backwards with him between my legs, trying to get him just out of the house as quick as I possibly could.
“I was so happy that I found him, we got him out, he was breathing.”
It is understood the child was trapped in his bedroom with his race car bed left burnt and charred from the blaze.

After neighbours rescued the child they opened the garage to let a dog run to safety.
It is believed one pet cat died in the fire and the other two are unaccounted for.
The four-year-old was treated for minor injuries and Mr Prent was treated for burns to his feet and hands.
Acting Swan DFES district officer Luke Miles said the act was heroic by the neighbours.
“It was very heroic by the residents to provide assistance but obviously an element of caution in terms of entering structure fires,” he said.
