Keanu Reeves’ Cyberpunk 2077 Role Made Him Realize What Marlon Brando Said About Superman

Keanu Reeves has been in the gaming industry for a short while now. He played the character of Johnny Silverhand in Cyberpunk 2077, released in 2020 amidst the COVID-19 lockdown.

His inclination towards video games made him realize an important aspect of the evolution of storytelling and what Marlon Brando said about his role in the movie Superman.

Keanu Reeves Understands Marlon Brando Better Now

Keanu Reeves is a big advocate for video games as an important storytelling tool in modern times. We got a glimpse at the first digitized version of Keanu Reeves in Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure as Ted Theodore Logan back in 1991.

Ever since Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure, Keanu Reeves’ involvement with video games has been prevalent. He has been part of many games, including 2003 Enter the Matrix, Constantine, John Wick Chronicle, John Wick Fortnite Skin, John Wick Hex, and finally Cyberpunk 2077.

His involvement with video games has been a conscious choice that he has made to explore new ways of storytelling. He believes that video games can transform the way stories are perceived. The interactivity games offer is lacking in all other modes of storytelling and is the biggest attraction for Reeves.

His experience with video games made him come closer to a thought shared by Marlon Brando when he was a part of Superman in 1978. Reeves said:

This has gotten me closer to the idea that I originally heard when I was a young kid, with Marlon Brando saying they could make a digital version of him when he was doing Superman.

Keanu Reeves has come to understand what Brando meant when he talked about digitizing his character from the film and pushing the boundaries of the audiovisual version even further.

Keanu Reeves’ Involvement In Cyberpunk 2077

Reeves plays the role of Johnny Silverhand in Cyberpunk 2077 as an NPC. He interacts with players in many different ways throughout the game, depending on the approach of a particular player.

By doing so, Reeves managed to portray the same character in many different ways by putting himself in varied situations, which is not possible to do in movies. Video games offer a unique outlook towards self-exploration for many characters in a particular game. He said:

In Cyberpunk 2077, it was the idea that Silverhand might be a different character depending on how someone opts to play the game and interact with him.

That was one of the ideas that drew me to play the role. When CD Projekt Red brought the project to me, they showed me and spoke to me about the platform of the game and the character.

Video games are an ever-evolving medium that offers a great outlook towards interactive storytelling in modern times.
