Kefalonia in Spring: Beaches, Mountains, and Hidden Gems

Where to stay

Kefalonia boasts over 300 different villages that are scattered across the island. Many of them provide excellent accommodation and are recommended for stays during the summer months. However, during this period, it’s preferable to choose the island’s capital as your base for excursions and nighttime outings.

Argostoli offers a variety of three- and four-star hotels, as well as several apartments. Try the Canale Hotel & Suites, which has a view of the Argostoli lagoon. The Kefalonia Grand and three-star Hotel Mouikis are conveniently located between the waterfront and the cobblestone street where most shops and cafes are found.

Where to eat

Although the tourist season in Kefalonia officially begins in early April with the arrival of the first charter flights from England, many restaurants do not open until the summer. However, this does not mean that you cannot eat well on the island during spring.

Giorgo’s Taverna (Tel. (+30) 26740.611.36) is located in the western village of Divarata, next to the butcher shop “To Kalon Oros,” and serves meat dishes as well as traditional cooked meals.

In Argostoli, Tzivras (1 Vandorou,  Tel. (+30) 26710.242.59) has been operating daily since 1933, serving traditional meat pie and vegetarian dishes.

Botsolo’s grillhouse (Valsamata, Tel. (+30) 26710.861.55), known for its ribs and lamb, is located in the area of Aghios Gerasimos, near the center of the island.

Finally, on Lixouri’s pedestrian street, you can find the taverna Mimosa (26 Grigoriou Lambraki, Tel. (+30) 26710.934.54), which serves seafood and a more modern version of Kefalonian cuisine.
