Kingmakers Already Has a Movie Deal In The Works
Kingmakers was revealed earlier this year, intriguing players the world over with a unique premise. In this ambitious title, users will assume control of a modern military force sent back through history to alter timelines, taking with them a present-day military might made up of tanks, helicopters, and all manner of weaponry. They’ll be facing off against traditional medieval armies using cavalry charges and trebuchets – it’s a bold concept.
Despite not having a release date on the cards, Kingmakers has reportedly secured a movie deal with Story Kitchen, the team best known for working on the likes of Sonic the Hedgehog.
Running Before Walking
Shortly after Kingmakers was revealed, I caught up with the developers who told me that they were focused on building the ‘ultimate medieval fantasy’. It certainly is something along those lines, and the premise is solid enough that it has won over Story Kitchen. In a statement, Dmitri M. Johnson, a producer working with Story Kitchen, said:
The action, world-building, and intriguing sci-fi of Kingmakers make it a perfect concoction to build a propulsive new franchise in Hollywood.
Story Kitchen is preparing to work on several live-action and animated adaptations of video game franchises, creating a host of multimedia ecosystems. In the pipeline sits Dredge, Disco Elysium, Vampire Survivors, and there’s a Tomb Raider project in there somewhere as well.
Kingmakers looks like a fresh and entertaining project with hours of fun wrapped up at the heart of it, but how would it fare as a live-action adaptation? It likely wouldn’t win awards like HBO’s The Last of Us, but it might do better than Borderlands, at least. People are hungry for adaptations of their favourite games right now, so who knows?
