Krypto The Superdog To Appear In James Gunn’s Superman Film – Report

Mark Waid, best known for his work on Kingdom Come and Batman/Superman: World’s Finest, has confirmed that Krypto the Superdog will be part of James Gunn’s upcoming Superman film. During an episode of the Capes and Lunatics Podcast, Waid shared that the super-powered dog will have a role in the film set for release in 2025.

“The movie has a dog in it, a superpowered dog with heat vision,” Waid said (via Collider), as he expressed his excitement for Gunn’s approach to the DCU. Waid, who has been involved with both DC and Marvel projects, noted that Gunn brings a “reverential approach” to comic book storytelling. He explained that while Gunn takes the source material seriously, he doesn’t lose sight of its more whimsical elements. “It ain’t Zack Snyder,” Waid further remarked, drawing a distinction between Gunn’s vision and the darker tone of previous DC films.

The upcoming film will feature David Corenswet as Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. The film is also set to include Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor, Nathan Fillion’s Green Lantern, and Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl. In June, set photos surfaced, revealing Corenswet as Superman (in a brighter costume reminiscent of Christopher Reeve’s iconic look) and Edi Gathegi as Mr. Terrific (sporting a comic-accurate T-mask) in full costume while filming in Cleveland, Ohio.

Superman, scheduled for a July 11, 2025 release, will serve as the first entry in the newly rebooted DC Universe, known as Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters. This film will not be an origin story but will showcase a variety of DC heroes and villains as part of Gunn’s new direction for the franchise.
