Latest Leaks Suggest Nintendo Switch 2 Will Surpass Xbox Series S in More Ways Than One

The Nintendo Switch seems to be coming soon, with a special reveal presentation that could go live at any time in the next few weeks. Given that, it really comes as no surprise that fans’ excitement is essentially reaching fever pitch at this point.

However, beyond the anticipation for its design and new features, the biggest question remains: How powerful will the Nintendo Switch 2 really be? Well, suppose the latest leaks surrounding the consoles are accurate. In that case, we could be looking at something that surpasses even the Xbox Series S.

Nintendo Switch 2’s Leaked Specs Suggests That It Will Be Comparable to the Xbox Series S

Recently, new leaks have emerged carrying photos of Switch 2 factory prototypes. While the CAD render hasn’t been confirmed as the final design for the Switch, which features a large screen and a thinner console overall, the spec sheet that came with the photos does line up with all previous leaks.

Not only that, but the key specs that have surfaced suggest that the Switch 2 might more than keep up with something like the Xbox Series S and even surpass it in certain aspects.

• Memory: 12GB LPDDR5X RAM
• Storage: 256GB UFS 3.1 (Up to 2.1 GB/s speed)

• HDMI 2.1 Output: 4K when docked
• Ethernet Support: Gigabit port in dock

Now, looking at the Xbox Series S’ specs, while the console does have a more powerful custom Zen 2 CPU and 4 TFLOPs RDNA 2 GPU, the Switch 2’s portable nature, combined with NVIDIA DLSS support, might allow it to deliver smooth performance at 4K when docked.

In addition, while the Switch 2 seems to have more total RAM (12 GB LPDDR5X) than the Series S (10 GB GDDR6), the Series S’s bandwidth (224 GB/s) makes its RAM more effective with rendering tasks.

The storage part is also rather interesting. The Switch 2 will feature 256 GB UFS 3.1 in storage, providing fast read/write speeds of up to 2.1 GB/s, but the Series S has 512 GB NVMe SSD storage, which is slightly faster with its 2.4 GB/s uncompressed throughput.

Lastly, the Switch 2 offers a unique advantage over the Series S with its handheld mode, which the latter just can’t compete with. Overall, though, Nintendo’s new device seems to be a lot stronger and more competent than the first Switch.

Plus, given that, Nintendo seems to care less about the hardware and more about making the most of what it has to create good games, the upcoming console will do just fine for Nintendo to race ahead of its two competitors this generation.

Let’s Not Forget That the Nintendo Switch 2 Brings All These Specs at a Highly Competitive Price

Another key advantage of the Nintendo Switch 2 is its rumored $400 price point, which makes it more affordable than the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. This price point especially feels like a slap on Sony’s eye-watering $700 PS5 Pro.

It’s also worth mentioning that the other two platforms haven’t been doing all that well this generation anyway. For instance, the Series S may be a cheaper inlet into gaming, but recent price hikes for services like Game Pass, along with performance concerns and the constant delay of important titles, have frustrated Xbox players to no end.

Meanwhile, Sony has had its own struggles, with PlayStation 5 Pro’s steep pricing and lackluster improvements leaving many players underwhelmed. The company also suffers from a lackluster first-party offering compared to the previous era.

These fumbles from Xbox and PlayStation have created a perfect opening for the Switch 2 to shine. Given Nintendo’s strong track record with its offerings, the Switch 2 is undoubtedly another all-timer in the making.
