Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver Remasters Revealed At PlayStation State Of Play

A remaster of both Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver games was announced during September’s State of Play, confirming earlier PlayStation Network leaks. The new State of Play trailer also confirmed the leaked December 10 release date and that the remaster is being handled by developers Crystal Dynamics and Aspyr.

The two games are bundled together as Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1&2 Remastered. The release of this bundle coincides with the franchise’s 25th anniversary, and it includes the option to experience the games in their original visuals or remastered graphics.

The end of the trailer only mentions that the remaster is available for PS4 and PS5–which makes sense as this was a State of Play Presentation–so it’s unconfirmed if the remaster is coming to Xbox, PC, and other platforms as well. However it’s likely that the remaster will launch on other platforms seeing as the original games both also released on PC, not just PlayStation.

Back when these games first launched–the original Soul Reaver in 1999 and Soul Reaver 2 in 2001–GameSpot’s reviews favored both of them. In GameSpot’s Soul Reaver review, Greg Kasavin gave the game an 8.2/10 and in GameSpot’s Soul Reaver 2 review, Joe Fielder gave the game an 8.8/10. Here’s hoping the remaster brings both games in-line with modern day players’ standards.
