Light of Motiram, Tencent’s upcoming Horizon-inspired open-world RPG, looks like it’s coming to mobile

  • Light of Motiram, Tencent-owned Polaris Quest’s upcoming open-world RPG is also coming to mobile
  • It boasts: Base-building, survival elements, creature collection & customisation, co-op AND crossplay
  • Is it a bit ambitious for mobile?

It’s a day for big announcement it seems, not only do we have confirmation of Project Mugen’s official title, but we now know that another major release in the form of Tencent-owned Polaris Quest’s Light of Motiram is set to come to mobile, at least that’s how the news appears!

As alluded to by the studio via Chinese social media (courtesy of Gematsu), Light of Motiram will not only release via Epic Games and Steam, but also on PlayStation 5, and seemingly mobile too. Which, if this release’s expansive feature list and visual fidelity is anything to go by, would be quite ambitious.

But what is Light of Motiram? Well, that’s hard to describe because as I was reading through the store page my mind jumped from genre to genre. Open-world RPG? Oh, so like Genshin? But it also has base building? Maybe Rust? Giant mechanical animals? Horizon Zero Dawn? Which you can train and customise? Are we adding a bit of Palworld into the mix too?!

I suppose there’s one way to beat the allegations of ripping off other releases (which Horizon fans have been, understandably, galled), and that’s to throw in everything you can! It’s both surprising, but somewhat impressive, and I admit somewhat intriguing too. Although I’m also equally sceptical that a release with such visual fidelity, and so many interlocking systems, can really release so easily across multiple platforms.

But at the moment, it does seem that some sort of mobile beta is in the works. So once we know more, we’ll find out just how (if at all) Tencent and Polaris Quest will stuff all this onto a smartphone.

Still, it looks as if we have a while before more info on the mobile release is forthcoming, so why not take some time out while you wait? Check out our latest list of the top five new mobile games to try this week for all the latest releases!
