“This unexpected loss has deeply affected and impacted our entire Lacey community,” Porter wrote. “Our heartfelt condolences, prayers, and continued thoughts go out to the family, friends, and community of loved ones who knew and cherished her.”

The letter continued that school and district staff acted when the medical emergency occurred, followed by Little Rock first responders during the Wednesday emergency.

The school has not released the name of the student and the circumstances of her death. Porter said this was to protect the student’s family and the school is providing grief counseling.

“Death is often difficult, challenging, and uncovers a myriad of emotions in many individuals, while others may struggle with processing their grief-response,” Porter wrote. “Know that as soon as our campus staff was made aware of the incident, we made efforts to leverage building and district staff to prioritize the emotional wellbeing of our students and staff.  This was all done while working to maintain the privacy of the immediate family and with an effort to not disseminate any misinformation, preserving their dignity during their time of loss.”

Porter continued that “much misinformation is being shared about what occurred,” and the school is working with law enforcement in investigating the death.

The principal included a condolence and thanks to the community.

“I want to thank each of you for your vigilance, your patience, your continued support, and your understanding during this difficult time,” the letter concluded. “It is my sincere hope that Lacey was a positive impact on her academically and socially, and I am confident that she will have a lasting and positive impact on those who were blessed to know and love her.”
