Man, 20, charged over Burswood police chase in Holden Commodore

A 20-year-old man has been charged after a dramatic car chase which ended in the accused hiding under a car in a bid to flee police.

Police tried to stop a black Holden Commodore sedan on Great Eastern Highway, Burswood, about 12.45am on Thursday but the drover allegedly sped away.

The driver is alleged to have led police along several streets, before mounting a footpath and driving towards a police car, narrowly missing it.

Police say the Commodore was driving so erratically, they were forced to stop the chase and follow it at a “safe distance” through several suburbs.

The 20-year-old driver stopped on Silver Street, South Fremantle, and fled on foot before being found hiding under a vehicle in the front yard of a neighbouring property.

The Kattaning local has been charged with reckless driving to escape pursuit by police, failing to comply with a direction to stop in circumstances of aggravation and no authority to drive.

He is due to face Perth Magistrates Court today.
