Man arrested after illegally cutting down trees, selling the wood in Iredell County: Sheriff’s Office
IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – A man is facing charges after cutting down trees without permission, blocking the road, and selling the wood, the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office says.
On the evening of Saturday, Jan. 18, deputies got reports of a man near Amity Hill Road chopping down trees without permission and blocking the road.
Deputies say trees fell on power lines and a parked car, causing damage to both. State Highway Patrol and Duke Energy were called to help. Amity Hill Road was closed for several hours while repairs were done.

The man, 36-year-old Jonathan Ray Lowman, said he had permission to cut down the trees. However, officials say he crossed onto someone else’s property and continued to cut trees without the owner knowing.
After interviewing witnesses and the property owners, investigators concluded that Lowman had illegally chopped down multiple trees, resulting in damage worth thousands of dollars. He then reportedly made money by selling the stolen trees to a local business.
On Thursday, Jan. 30, Lowman was arrested and booked into the Iredell County Detention Center. He is charged with the following:
Felony Obtaining Property by False Pretenses
Misdemeanor Injury to Trees/Crops/Lands
Misdemeanor Injury to Real Property
He has since been released after posting a $10,000 secured bond, according to jail records.
