Man shot dead by police at Middleton Grange in Sydney’s southwest

A man has been shot dead by police after threatening officers with a knife in Sydney’s southwest overnight.

The 34-year-old allegedly confronted police officers when they were called to Bird Walton Ave, Middleton Grange about 11pm Saturday.

“Initial information indicates that a 33-year-old male officer was struck with the knife and was protected by his operational vest,” police said.

The police officer was not injured.

Police tasered the man and then shot him when his efforts continued.

The officers performed CPR until paramedics arrived, but the man could not be revived.

A critical incident investigation is underway. The investigation is also subject to an independent review.
