Man’s body found in the trunk of a car in west Wichita, police say
A 39-year-old man’s body was found in the trunk of a car in a grassy field near the Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport in west Wichita on Wednesday morning.
“The victim was found wrapped in blood-stained bedding with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper and lower body,” Wichita police spokesperson Andrew Ford said in a news release.
Police said the killing happened nearby at Delux Inn, 8401 W. Kellogg, where the “original crime scene” was found before the body was moved about a quarter-mile away.
Police had the parking lot of the Delux Inn motel taped off Wednesday. Authorities think a man was killed there. His body was found inside a car trunk a quarter-mile away in a grassy field.
Police were called at 7:11 a.m. about an abandoned vehicle in the 8200 block of West Irving, which is just south of Kellogg between Reca and Woodchuck.
Vehicle dealerships and other businesses are near where the car was found. The car, a white Mercedes, had a temporary plate on it.
Ford would not answer additional questions.
This is the city’s 27th homicide of the year, according to reports from police. There were 30 at this time last year.
