Mario and Luigi: Brothership dev is still a mystery

As per usual, Nintendo is remaining tight-lipped about what studio is in charge of developing Mario and Luigi: Brothership, which is slated for a November release. The game was the opener for the recent long-awaited Nintendo Direct that was confirmed to be happening in the same post to reveal that it is prepping to reveal its next console.

During a Game File interview, a Nintendo rep largely tip-toed around the question of what studio is involved with the game’s development. The only thing said was that “some of the original developers” were working on it. This is significant as AlphaDream, the original developer behind the Mario and Luigi series, went under in 2019.

Brothership is an important game to the series as fans have been starved of the Mario and Luigi action RPG series, with the last entry being Mario and Luigi: Paper Jam in 2015 on the 3DS. At this time, we don’t know much about the new game outside promising that you’ll unfold secrets held by this mysterious island and “evolved moves.” We can expect the game to be in our grasp on November 7, 2024.

This is far from the first time Nintendo has shied away from sharing what studio or who is directly involved in a game. The remake of Super Mario RPG, for example, didn’t share the developer behind it, with leaks confirming it was Japanese developer ArtePizza behind the wheel.
