Mario Kart 8 Deluxe sells over 6 million JP units

Nintendo’s hit kart racer, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, has surpassed six million units sold in Japan. Last we heard was back in June it passed 62.9 million units worldwide.

A new Famitsu (via GamingBolt) report points to this number. Beyond the expectation that it would be among the top-sellers, its all-time sale in the country was revealed. It only played second fiddle to the recently released Kamaitachi no Yoru x3, which released exclusively in Japan.

This isn’t the entire market, though, as Famitsu reports are normally strictly tied to physical sales, which Japan dominates above other regions. It’s likely that number is higher with gamers who are just playing games without the need of the physical cartridge.

Nintendo still has yet to see a new game break the record that Animal Crossing: New Horizons propped up at 7.9 million, but by the time Nintendo’s kart racer comes close to that number, it might already be beyond the eight million milestone.
