Marvel Rivals Promises to Bring Balanced Characters at Launch

It’s a known fact that hero-shooters with many unique characters, such as Overwatch 2 and Apex Legends, are a complete nightmare to balance. All the games in this genre feature a variety of characters, and each of them must feel strong and fun to pick and play. Otherwise, no one would bother using them.

With how Blizzard and other developers have handled gameplay balancing around various characters, gamers are scarred forever. However, NetEase isn’t scared of this challenge.

While chatting with Gaming Bolt, the developer opened up about gameplay balance issues and how it is planning to tackle this problem in Marvel Rivals without sabotaging the iconic characters.

Translating these abilities into gameplay can present challenges in terms of realism and balance. However, our team has risen to this challenge.  We’ve meticulously evaluated and fine-tuned all abilities through rigorous internal and external testing to ensure relative balance across various environments.

In order to properly balance all characters, NetEase has done rigorous testing and fine-tuning of abilities for all heroes in Marvel Rivals. Even though it’s a difficult process, NetEase believes that it’s necessary to ensure fairness across different environments while still maintaining the authenticity of each character’s true powers.

With how NetEase has developed the game, it’s clear that December will be a huge fan for Marvel fans. Let’s hope the developer actively listens to the community for feedback on character balancing and doesn’t make the same mistakes as Blizzard with Overwatch 2.

Marvel Rivals Should Be Careful With Following One Industry Trend

In all live-service games, battle passes are coming under more and more scrutiny. Battle passes can sometimes prove to be a worthwhile investment in multiplayer games, but they simply don’t belong in certain titles in the industry. Gamers feel that this model of monetization is ruining gaming as a whole.

Unfortunately, Marvel Rivals will also adopt a battle-pass model. During the game’s beta, the major issue was the fact that the game’s battle pass was a nightmare to progress through. Rather than getting XP through winning, gamers were tasked with completing challenges to progress further.

The reception around Marvel Rivals‘ battle pass system wasn’t positive, but developers have assured that when the final build goes live, it won’t feature any kind of “pay to win” schemes.

NetEase must nail the game’s monetization system; otherwise, it could suffer from the same problems as Overwatch 2. Blizzard’s monetization tactics for the game are absolutely horrendous and are always a source of frustration among gamers.
