Marvel’s Thunderbolts Will Surprise You, Actor Says
Actors Wyatt Russell and Sebastian Stan have discussed the upcoming Thunderbolts movie, which, along with Captain America: Brave New World, is one of the next big MCU movies in 2025.
Speaking to Variety, Russell–who plays US Agent in the MCU–said Thunderbolts will be different from past MCU films in a way that he hopes audiences find to be refreshing.
“The heart of the movie is what’s going to hopefully play and set it apart… all the Marvel movies have had heart. But this one has a different tone that I really think people will enjoy and be surprised by. Not in a weird way, like, ‘Oh, fuck, what’s this?!’ But in a way that’s refreshing,” he said.
The first trailer for Thunderbolts was shown behind closed doors at Comic-Con and hasn’t been released publicly yet. But Russell said when people see it, they will understand what sets Thunderbolts apart.
“It doesn’t look like a Marvel movie of yore. It’s going to be fun to be part of something and let people in on something that’s going to be a little bit of a different ride,” he said.
As for Stan, who plays Bucky Barnes, he used a quote from the Ron Howard movie Apollo 13 to describe Thunderbolts. “It’s like riding a psychotic horse through a blazing stable. That’s how I feel about us,” he said.
Thunderbolts also stars David Harbour as Red Guardian and Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova. The film has an asterisk in its title, and Marvel won’t explain why until the movie comes out. It’s not the only new MCU movie coming in 2025, as Captain America: Brave New World is also releasing next year. After that, fans can look forward to Robert Downey Jr. returning to the MCU in 2026’s Avengers: Doomsday.
