Melbourne Renegades chasing huge total to do Perth Scorchers a favour and keep their season alive

The Perth Scorchers need Melbourne to beat Brisbane to stay alive in the finals race – but the Renegades are facing a massive run-chase after two of their star bowlers were banned in controversial circumstances.

The Scorchers face Adelaide later in the afternoon, and must win to keep their top-four hopes afloat. But they also require a narrow Renegades victory, and the Victorian side is chasing a monster target of 197 at Marvel Stadium.

The Renegades’ cause wasn’t helped by skipper Will Sutherland and fellow pace star Fergus O’Neill both being ruled out of the attack for running into the ‘danger zone’ in the middle of the pitch in their delivery stride.

It meant opener Josh Brown had to bowl 16 deliveries – and got pasted for 48.

Should Melbourne chase down the total, and Perth prevail, they still require Hobart to beat the Melbourne Stars on Sunday to reach the finals.

More to come
