Metaphor: ReFantazio – How to Beat Kokasados Boss Guide

If you wish to complete every Metaphor: ReFantazio side quest, you will need to know how to beat Kokasados and acquire its Spoils. You will come across this miniboss when completing a side quest in the Port Brilehaven location.

Once you complete a lengthy story segment in this area, you will be free to explore and take on the many side quests that have made themselves available. Metaphor: ReFantazio does a great job of making the player feel like the world is alive, and bosses like the Kokasados adds to the challenge of experiencing everything this RPG has to offer!

Where Can You Find Kokasados?

The Kokasados releasing a roar before the battle commences in Metaphor: ReFantazio.
This big bird might end up ruffling your feathers if you aren’t mindful of its attacks.

You will encounter the Kokasados as you progress the Soldier’s Solace side quest offered by the Exhausted Lady in Angler’s Inn Square in Port Brilehaven. The lady needs the player to find some Dragonthistle Berries, and players will have to look in some unique locations to find these items. There is no deadline on this Metaphor: ReFantazio quest, so players can attempt it, and the miniboss, at their leisure.

You will then have to travel to Gracia Forest to find the required seven Berries for the old lady’s potion. The location has several other enemies, such as Demonic Beast Manjula, which should be avoided but can be fought if you wish to farm resources such as MAG. Gracia First is large, but not too confusing as long as you keep checking your map.

The Kokasados will make an appearance once you have collected the final seventh Dragonthistle Berry. You will have a moment to heal your team and replenish any drained MP from previous fights, so use this opportunity to get ready for the Metaphor: ReFantazio battle.

How to Prepare to Fight Kokasados?

The player's party facing off against the Kokasados in Gracia Forest before the battle begins.
A four-person team would be the ideal scenario to attempt this fight.

The Koksadaos’ large health pool can cause the battle to drag on for a while without the right party strategy. The miniboss comes in at a level of 25, so there’s going to be a fair bit of damage being dealt to your Metaphor: ReFantazio party. Make sure you stock up on some Recovery Items by earning Reeves quickly and visiting any nearby Merchant.

Tip

This boss’s attacks will affect everyone on the team, and we recommend fighting it once you have Heismay in your party.

You want to choose Archetypes that allow you to use Pierce Skill attacks, as they are the Koksados’ weaknesses. Wind Skills do not work at all on the boss, so don’t bother wasting your turn icons. The other damage types can affect this giant bird, but going all in with Pierce Skills will give you the most bang for your buck on every turn.

Suggested Party

Character Role
Protagonist Equip the Gunner Archetype and place them on the back row to provide support with Pierce Skills and debuffs such as Sleep Shot, Poison Shot, and Hex Shot.
Strohl Equip Strohl with the Pugilist Archetype, making him one of the main damage dealers during this fight with his Power Thrust Pierce Skill, and will be supporting Hulkenberg on the front lines.
Hulkenberg Equip Hulkenberg with the Magic Knight Archetype and place her at the front to work with Strohl using her Jump Thrust Pierce Skill.
Heismay Equip Heismay with the Assassin Archetype and relegate him to the role of using Steal on the Kokasados and also his Assassinate Skill.

How to Beat Kokasados?

Pierce Skills will be your best friend in this fight to make short work of this avian threat.

The Kokasados fight is a single-enemy encounter, but this Metaphor: ReFantazio enemy’s attack hits across the board and can quickly rack up damage over turns. Add in its massive health pool and this is not a war of attrition you can win. The goal is to hit him consistently and hit it hard to end the battle as soon as possible, using the ideal Archetypes to work against the boss’s weakness.

Weaknesses Pierce
Best Archetypes Gunner, Pugilist, Magic Knight, Assassin

How to Cheese Kokasados? No known method to cheese this boss.
Rewards 990 EXP, 264 A-EXP, 750 MAG, 950 Reeves
Spoils: Tower White Mask
Worth the Trouble? Yes

Along with Wind Damage, this Metaphor: ReFantazio boss can also inflict Poison Damage, leading to a Status Ailment that can be quite annoying for players.

Poison will damage the affected character(s) on every turn, and the addition to sweeping damage from the boss’s attacks can quickly spell doom for many party members. Below are the attacks you can expect to see from Kokasados.

Peck of Death Instantly kills one squad member.
Cyclone Deals heavy Wind damage to one squad member.
Peck Pulverizer Deals heavy Physical damage to a single squad member.
Gacyclo Deals medium Wind damage to all squad members.

The Peck of Death is the most deadly attack, and it’s on your luck if the Kokasados decides to use it repeatedly throughout the battle. Ensure that your Gunner Archetype is constantly debuffing the boss as the Pugilist and Magic Knight use their Pierce Skills to deal damage. The Assassin’s Steal will help you get some rare loot from the boss and give you the chance to take it out with a single Assassinate.

As long as you keep hitting the boss with Pierce damage, you should be getting some extra turns to work against the boss’s massive health pool. Taking this boss down might not feel worth the effort, but it will help you complete one of Metaphor: ReFantazio’s side quests and reward you with even more resources.
