Microsoft acknowledges that Windows’ latest big update stops some Ubisoft games working

Microsoft has acknowledged that its latest major Windows update has stopped certain Ubisoft games from working.

Windows 11 version 24H2, which is the the third major update to Windows 11 since the operating system was released three years ago, has been rolling out throughout the month.

Players with access to the update have been noting for some time – particularly those who’ve had Preview access since the summer – that some Ubisoft games no longer work with the new update installed, and Microsoft has now acknowledged this.

“After installing Windows 11, version 24H2, you might encounter issues with some Ubisoft games,” a message on its support site reads. “These games might become unresponsive while starting, loading or during active gameplay. In some cases, users might receive a black screen. ”

According to Microsoft, the games affected are:

To make sure players don’t experience these issues, Microsoft says it has applied a “compatibility hold” on PCs with any of the above games installed, meaning the latest Windows update won’t automatically roll out to them yet.

Three Assassin’s Creed games are affected by the update.

“We recommend that you do not attempt to manually update to version 24H2 using the Windows 11 Installation Assistant or the media creation tool until this issue has been resolved,” Microsoft adds.

Ubisoft has released a temporary fix for Star Wars Outlaws for players who’ve already installed the update, but it notes that it’s not perfect and there will still be issues until a proper solution rolls out.

“We have just deployed a temporary hotfix (v1.4.1) for players who were experiencing issues playing on Windows 11 24H2,” it explained. “Please note that you may experience some performance issues while we work on a more permanent fix. As soon as it is ready, we will let you know.”
