Monster Hunter: World Has Sold 25 Million Units

Capcom has just celebrated the news that Monster Hunter: World has sold 25 million units since being released in 2018. This makes World the highest-selling single game in Capcom history – and it comes as the series hits its twentieth anniversary. Recently, Monster Hunter: World underwent a random and staggering climb on Steam, flying up from around 43,000 active players to more than 160,000 within a few days.

In a press release published by Capcom today, it was said:

Celebrating its 20th anniversary in March 2024, the Monster Hunter series consists of hunting action games that pit players against giant monsters in beautiful natural environments. Beginning with the first title in 2004, the series established a new genre in which players cooperate to hunt ferocious monsters with their friends and has since grown into a global phenomenon with cumulative sales of the series exceeding 97 million units as of December 31, 2023.

At almost 100 million global sales, Monster Hunter is one of the most popular franchises of all time, putting it in leagues with the likes of Tomb Raider, Gran Turismo, WWE 2K, and Battlefield. In the press release, it was said that ‘Capcom remains firmly committed to satisfying the expectations of all users by leveraging its industry-leading game development capabilities to create highly entertaining gameplay experiences.’

In 2025, the next iteration in the Monster Hunter series will be released – Monster Hunter: Wilds. The first trailer for this game was revealed in December, striking a spark in the hearts of fans the world over.
