Multiple High Quality AAA Games Releasing in Tandem Has Created an Uncanny Genre-Breaking Phenomenon
Ever since its release back in August 2023, Baldur’s Gate 3 has absolutely smashed player expectations and drawn the attention of millions of gamers to Larian Studio’s unique approach to the RPG genre.
While it’s an incredible game, Baldur’s Gate 3 ended up “ruining” the industry by truly refining what an exceptional gaming experience should be like. The release of such incredible AAA games in the past year has set new standards for developers to achieve.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is AAA Gaming At its Finest
Evaluating the success of Baldur’s Gate 3 is quite easy; the game is simply a masterpiece. The depth of its characters, the complexities of its storyline, and the number of things you can do in this title are just way too much to wrap your head around. It’s a game that feels personal, so gargantuan.
Baldur’s Gate 3 debuted in the industry last year and truly shook everything from the ground. Year after year, we as gamers were being treated with unfinished and buggy messes that developers simply abandoned after some time. However, Larian took things to the absolute peak and delivered a game that was simply perfect.

After playing Baldur’s Gate 3, most of the gaming community found other titles quite disappointing, and it’s not surprising. Larian stayed true to the classic Dungeons & Dragons experience and captivated everyone with the vast possibilities and incredible attention to detail.
While the beauty of games such as Baldur’s Gate 3 and Space Marine 2 might’ve made us picky when it comes to choosing our games, it’s actually great. Such games have raised our expectations of what a good AAA game developer can do with vast resources.
Since we didn’t have such high-quality titles in the past, we would’ve had to make do with whatever companies such as Activision and Bethesda had been throwing at us. Now that we know what to seek in a modern game, we can pressure gaming companies still following the old development formula and demand them bring a game that reaches the bar set by Baldur’s Gate 3 and other recent hits.
Will Larian Bring us a Baldur’s Gate 3 Sequel or DLC?
We can’t thank Larian Studios enough for raising the standards in the gaming industry with Baldur’s Gate 3. However, it’s been a year since the release of the game, and players are wondering if the studio will ever bring a major DLC or sequel for the beloved game.
Unfortunately, during a presentation at CDC, the studio’s CEO, Swen Vincke, stated that the studio is moving on from the Baldur’s Gate franchise altogether. While we might see a successor to the game in the future, Larian won’t be developing it.
If you’re unaware, the series is controlled by the Dungeons and Dragons publisher Wizards of the Coast. It can now choose the studio that will lead the next entry in the series.
Although Vincke didn’t state what Larian plans next, many speculate that it would be the much-anticipated return to the Divinity series. Only time will tell what the studio has in store for us.
With that said, do you think other developers need to follow the same success path as Baldur’s Gate 3? Let us know in the comments below.
