Murder probe after woman killed in Derbyshire e-bike ‘ramming’
A murder investigation has been started after a woman died in a hit-and-run crash in a Derbyshire village.
Police said they were called to Batley Lane in Pleasley at 20:00 GMT on Tuesday, where a dark-coloured 4×4 had followed two e-bikes before “ramming” one of the bikes, causing the rider and pillion to fall off, and then driving away.
A 25-year-old woman who was the passenger on the e-bike died at the scene while the rider, a man in his 20s, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Officers said a man and woman, both in their 30s and from the Skegby area of Nottinghamshire, had been arrested in connection with the incident and remain in police custody.
Derbyshire Police say they want to hear from anyone who saw the vehicle – believed to be a Land Rover Discovery manufactured between 2004 and 2009 – in and around the Pleasley area prior to the crash.
The vehicle was last seen on Rowthorne Lane where it turned right onto the A617 towards New Houghton, the force added.
Det Ch Insp Claudia Musson said: “This is an understandably shocking incident that has left a family grieving the loss of a young woman.
“A team of detectives have been working non-stop since the incident took place and have generated significant lines of inquiry.”
