NAIDOC Week 2024: Narrogin celebrates Indigenous culture with fun activities for all ages

Narrogin celebrated Indigenous culture for this year’s NAIDOC Week with activities, games, art, and education for all ages.

NAIDOC Week’s festivities kicked off early on July 4 at John Higgins Centre where families gathered for a day of cultural arts and crafts, including rock and canvas painting, biscuit decorating with the Aboriginal flag colours and a Shooting Stars dance performance.

From July 7 to 14, the Narrogin Heritage Railway Station displayed a collection of photographs captured by Narrogin Senior High School students, which debuted at the school’s Art & Photography exhibition last year.

On July 8, the Institute of Indigenous Wellbeing and Sport and Shire of Narrogin organised a hunting and gathering activity along with traditional games for 10 to 17-year-olds at the John Higgins Centre.

Throughout the week, R.W. Farr Memorial Library held craft activities each afternoon, including making damper, natural hair painting, weaving, and painting with nature.

To conclude NAIDOC Week on July 16, Djinda Kaal Dreaming Art Workshop taught participants to create their own Quandong necklace with colourful beads and quandong seeds at the Narrogin Heritage Railway.
