Netflix shuts down internal AAA game studio

Netflix, the widely available streaming service, has made efforts over the past few years to enter the gaming scene and even development with the founding of an internal game studio known as Team Blue within the company. It was to develop AAA experiences, but now it’s defunct.

Its closure was reported by Game File (via VGC). Before its closure it had some notable vets among its ranks with Overwatch exec, Chacko Sonny, in charge. Others who joined included Halo veteran, Joseph Staten, and God of War art director, Raf Grassetti.

The trio of veterans have since seen Team Blue shut down and left. Despite its efforts, it seems Netflix can’t find success in this market, largely because it’s going about it in a way that makes it the less appealing option, forcing you to already have a subscription to its service.

The closest success it has is exclusivity to Ojiro Fumoto’s Devolver Digital-published mobile game, Poinpy, which saw a healthy dose of praise.
