Nintendo is making quite a buzz after suing Pocket Pair for patent infringement. The gaming community is scratching its heads after the Japanese gaming company aggressively made sure its fellow Japanese developer’s wings are clipped amidst the rising success of their game. The game was developed with a modest budget and achieved an impressive milestone a few months after the release date early this year.

It is easy to forget that Pokémon took inspiration from Dragon Quest and is now pursuing legal action against Pocket Pair for a crime they also committed years ago. It is like poetry that rhymes and the gaming community is baffled by these recent events that could affect the success of Pocket Pair and Palworld.

Nintendo Is the Peak Definition of Hypocrisy After Filing a Lawsuit Against Pocket Pair

Pocket Pair started Palworld with a modest budget of 6.7 million dollars and accumulated $442 million after 8 months, which is impressive. Unfortunately, the recent lawsuit will most likely be a massive thorn in the overall sales and hamper the game’s growing success. If Nintendo comes out victorious after this lawsuit, the game will likely be pulled out of digital storefronts across the Xbox and PC platforms.

It is rare for an indie game to sell at least 15 million copies a few months after launch and Pocket Pair proved it was not impossible. The only thing the game borrowed from Pokémon was success, and the game developers saw how the franchise was badly neglected by Nintendo and used the frustration of the gaming community to fuel this project. Pocket Pair saw the short window of opportunity and dived in without hesitation, giving the fans the game they wanted.

Dragon Quest came out a decade earlier than Pokémon and the creators were inspired by the themes and concepts like taming monsters. In a way, The Pokémon Company ripped off Akira Toriyama’s work and added a few creative changes to differentiate the two franchises without people assuming they are the same. Pocket Pair did the same thing but made the franchise better by offering unique features that the gaming community wanted to see years ago, and is now paying the price.

Palworld Is the Culmination of Nintendo’s Hypocrisy and Potential Scapegoat

The gaming community is full of theorists and a few fans are beginning to suspect Nintendo’s sudden and rash decision to pursue legal action against Pocket Pair that they could have easily done months ago. Recently, leaks of the upcoming Nintendo Switch successor have been making rounds across the internet and social media, perhaps the Japanese gaming company is planting seeds to keep all eyes on them until the imminent reveal.

Perhaps the Japanese gaming company couldn’t let fellow Japanese developers have this level of success and wanted to assert dominance by taking out the competition by any means necessary. The gaming community is not impressed with this behavior and petty demeanor, which could harm the livelihood of game developers and put a stain on a great video game.

Regardless of the lawsuit’s outcome, the damage has already been done and Nintendo is doing more to promote the game by filing a case against them, and the support of the public will likely flock to Pocket Pair. The design choices are obvious and the game developers were inspired by the Pokémon concept which could be enough reason for legal action. However, the developers ensured to stand out by providing other gameplay mechanics and features.

Akira Toriyama invented Dragon Quest a decade earlier, and it gave the creators of Pokémon enough time to think of ways to stand out. Innovation will never end and it will only be a matter of time before another entity will follow suit and take concepts that worked and trimmed the fat to prevent any legal action like what Pocket Pair is having to endure.
