No dog killing in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle

You can’t shoot dogs in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. Frankly, it sounds weird to think, but considering it’s being developed by MachineGames, which also developed Wolfenstein, which did have you kill dogs, it wouldn’t be too shocking if it was going to be the same situation. Luckily, though, that’s not the case.

Speaking with IGN, creative director Jens Andersson dropped the not-too-hard-to-see-coming bombshell that Indiana Jones won’t kill dogs because he’s a “dog person.” Additionally, because the IP is family friendly, it would be difficult to introduce. Instead, enemy canines will just be scared away rather than hurt.

“It’s a family-friendly IP in many ways. How do we do that well? Well, these are the kind of things that we do. We have dogs as enemies, but you don’t really hurt the dogs. You scare them away.”

Meanwhile, when asked if similar scenes like the Nazi face melt scene from Last Crusade would be found in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, both Andersson and executive producer Craig Derrick remain reserved.

“We don’t really have jump scares necessarily, but we have the creepy crawlies sometimes. And there’s a couple of moments when you’ll see Indy in a precarious situation and you’ll feel like it’s claustrophobic. You’ll feel like it’s a little bit scary and still in the safest possible way, but I think we bring much of that, as you say, authenticity of the films into this game throughout it. It’s an extraordinary experience to go through.”

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle releases to PC and Xbox Series X|S on December 9 with a PS5 version coming in spring 2025.
