Ombudsman Chris Field set up ‘sham’ process to justify international travel, CCC finds

A damning corruption report has found WA Ombudsman Chris Field — who was tasked with independent oversight of government — engaged in “serious misconduct” and set up a “sham” process to approve more than $170,000 in international travel on the taxpayer’s dime.

The Ombudsman, who was appointed in 2007 and has been on leave since the conclusion of public hearings in May, billed taxpayers $172,000 in international travel in the space of a year.
