One Ability That Could’ve Made Him Similar to Valorant’s Sage is a Massive Missed Opportunity
We’ve seen tons of high-profile games released this year that missed the mark, but Marvel Rivals looks to be heading in the right direction. With a massive boost from the Marvel license, the hype around the game continues to build after new character reveals, and a phenomenal beta gave gamers a taste of what’s to come.
Marvel Rivals is quickly approaching its release, and developer NetEease has confirmed another playable character for the game, Moon Knight. While he looks to be an incredible addition to the game’s already-packed roster, NetEase might’ve dropped the ball by not making him similar to Valorant’s Sage.
Marvel Rivals Has Missed a Great Opportunity With Moon Knight
In Marvel Rivals, Moon Knight will be a Dualist-style character, joining the ranks of Punisher, Winter Solider, and many others. Just like Damage types in Overwatch 2, Dualists excel at attacking and are more aimed toward offense than Strategists and Vanguards. The catch is that they often come with lower health to balance them out.
In the brief trailer, we can get a good look at Moon Knight as he whips out Crescent Darts that can bounce between his targets. He can also use Moon Blades that can sweep through their targets and summon sacred ankh that can be put on the ground. His ultimate outright calls down spectral fists of Khonshu, which hit the ground and cause quite severe damage.
While Moon Knight definitely fits as a Duellist character in Marvel Rivals, NetEase could’ve also made him an incredible support character, just like Valorant‘s Sage. She’s one of the most pivotal support characters in Valorant, as she can turn the tide of any battle using her resurrection ability, allowing her to bring a fallen teammate back to life.
In Marvel’s lore, Moon Knight suffered multiple deaths only to be resurrected by Khonshu, making him practically immortal until the moon god’s protection is revoked over him. That’s not all; he also has regenerative healing factors which allow him to heal quickly from his injuries.
NetEase could’ve always twisted Khonshu’s resurrection techniques and made them an ability for Moon Knight. Despite being broken, such abilities in any hero-shooter add to the fun of the game. Let’s hope that the developers recognize their mistakes and reproach Moon Knight in a different way once the game drops.
When is Marvel Rivals‘ Hitting the Shelves?
Gamers who tuned into this year’s Gamescom 2024 livestream got to see NetEase revealing more of Marvel Rivals in action with a trailer presenting Captain America and Winter Soldier.
However, the most shocking reveal of all came at the end of it all when NetEase confirmed that Marvel Rivals will be out in its full glory on December 6th, 2024!
All heroes in Marvel Rivals, including Moon Knight, will be unlockable from the get-go and absolutely free to play. So, players will be able to experience all the action when the title finally releases this winter. Currently, you can wishlist the game on Xbox Series S/X, PlayStation 5, Steam, and Epic Games Store.
