Outgoing Orange Cat Discovers Swans Are Not Exactly Purr-Fect Companions
Cats are curious creatures who love to explore their surroundings. Whether they’re watching birds, playing with reflections and lights, or investigating new spaces like bags or boxes, their inquisitive nature is a joy to observe. Some are even bold enough to approach new animals with fearless finesse. Unfortunately, their interest is not always welcomed, even when it is well-intentioned.
This is especially true when friendly felines attempt to interact with bolder birds like Swans. Watch this fluffy Orange Cat learn this comedic lesson in a video from November 11:

That hiss meant business! At first, I thought the warning was coming from this beautiful Ginger cat. But it was the Swan who was announcing he had zero interest in making friends with Primus (@primuscat). Even though this calm kitty made no moves of aggression, this bird had a strong sense of self-preservation and would not take any chances with a potentially formidable opponent. Upon hearing the first hiss, Primus didn’t seem concerned about any potential threat. However, after the third time, he heeded the warning and walked away. LOL! That’s an intelligent cat, as these big birds are known for not playing around when they feel they are in danger.

Are Swan’s Known For Being Aggressive?
Swans can display aggressive behavior in certain circumstances, especially during their breeding season. They are protective of their mates and young, reacting boldly to perceived threats. This territorial instinct can lead to aggression when humans tease or provoke them, particularly with food. While Swans rarely attack without provocation, there have been rare incidents where they’ve engaged with humans. According to Bird Fact, a notable incident occurred in 2012 when one caused a man to fall from his kayak, which led to his drowning as the bird prevented him from swimming back to safety.
Although such events are exceptions, it’s wise to maintain a respectful distance from Swans, especially during nesting times or when they show signs of agitation, such as hissing, neck arching, or wing flapping. Bird Fact advises that if you encounter an aggressive Swan, the best action is to retreat slowly while keeping the bird in view, trying to appear as large and intimidating as possible to deter it.
