Overwatch Announces Sudden Release On Xbox Game Pass Tomorrow, Offering Exclusive Benefits

Overwatch 2 has been one of the most popular free-to-play first-person shooter games for many years now. The series was kicked off with the 2016 hero shooter, Overwatch, but in 2022, the game was replaced with Overwatch 2. It has been confirmed that the game is coming to Xbox Game Pass tomorrow, 17th September.

This is not surprising as Overwatch 2 is one of Blizzard Entertainment’s most prized possessions. Since Microsoft has now acquired the studio, it makes sense why the game has been added to the game pass. The game is free-to-play for everyone, however, players who have the Xbox Game Pass will get some benefits.

Overwatch 2 Is Coming To Xbox Game Pass

Blizzard Entertainment has announced on their official website that their free-to-play first-person shooter game, Overwatch 2, is coming to Xbox Game Pass on 17th September 2024.

In October 2023, Microsoft bought Activision Blizzard for roughly $68 million, giving them access to franchises like Call of Duty, World of Warcraft, and Diablo. Thanks to this deal, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will also be available on the Xbox Game Pass on day one i.e. 25th October 2024.

Since Call of Duty is a massive franchise, Sony signed a binding, 10-year agreement with Microsoft to keep Call of Duty on its PlayStation gaming consoles after closing the Activision Blizzard acquisition.

Xbox Game Pass Subscribers Will Get Exclusive In-Game Items

The studio has revealed that players who have an active Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Xbox Game Pass for Console, or PC Game Pass account, can get their hands on some exclusive benefits.

By linking their active membership to their Battle.net account before November 11th, players will get six hero skins: Cardboard Reinhardt, Turtleship D.Va, Cyberdragon Hanzo, Street Runner Genji, Bee Mercy, and Cleric Lifeweaver.

Xbox Game Pass users will also have access to select Overwatch 2 Shop cosmetics from the past three seasons and a 10% XP boost. Apart from these benefits, players will also receive a one-time bonus of 30 Mythic Prisms, which are worth roughly $26.99. It’s safe to say that the Xbox community is very happy with the announcement.

Unfortunately, Overwatch 2 players on other platforms are disappointed to hear the news and hope that Activision Blizzard also drops some exclusive items for them as well. Overwatch 2 is available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S and features full cross-platform play.

Do you think exclusive items for Xbox Game Pass users is fair for everyone else? Share your opinions on the announcement in the comments!
