Paris Olympics 2024: Jack Robinson through to gold medal clash in surfing competition

Margaret River’s Jack Robinson is guaranteed an Olympic medal after upsetting Brazil’s Gabriel Medina in the stars’ semifinal showdown in Tahiti.

As action finally got underway following days of delays due to conditions, Robinson recorded scores of 7.83 and 4.50 amid underwhelming swell at Teahupo’o.

Medina notched a 6.33 to stay in contention, but as he eyed his second ride, he was ultimately left waiting for a wave that never came as the clock expired.

Robinson will face Kauli Vaast – a Tahitian local – in the final later on Tuesday morning (WA time).

It will mark Australia’s best surfing result at an Olympics after Owen Wright snared bronze on the sport’s Games debut in Tokyo.
