Paul, Bautista Agut and Khachanov lift ATP titles

Tommy Paul, Robero Bautista Agut and Karen Khachanov have all picked up titles in Europe on a busy finals day on the ATP tour.

American Paul capped a dominant week during which he didn’t drop a single set by winning the Nordic Open for a second time, defeating Grigor Dimitrov 6-4 6-3 in the 85-minute final in Stockholm on Sunday.

Earlier, Russian Khachanov had lifted the Almaty Open crown in Kazakhstan, beating first-time finalist, Canada’s Gabriel Diallo, 6-2 5-7 6-3.

In a third tournament, the European Open in Antwerp, Spanish veteran Bautista Agut took the spoils, defeating Czech Jiri Lehecka 7-5 6-1 for his 12th career crown.

For Paul, it was a third tour-level trophy of the year after his victories at the Dallas Open and Queen’s Club. His only previous ATP title before this year had been in Stockholm in 2021.

The win also moved him closer to ninth-placed Alex de Minaur in the top players’ bid to make it to the ATP Finals in Turin, for which only the top-eight will qualify.

Paul is now 10th, having closed the gap on the Australian No.1 de Minaur to 220 points. Andrey Rublev is currently in the eighth and final spot, 275 points behind the Russian.
