Penrith centre Paul Alamoti won’t throw Cameron Munster under the bus for alleged grand final bite

Premiership winning Penrith centre Paul Alamoti doesn’t want to see Cameron Munster suspended for an alleged bite in Sunday’s grand final, with the Storm five-eighth adamant he did nothing wrong.

Munster was placed on report with five minutes to go by referee Ashley Klein after Alamoti accused him of biting his arm which was wrapped around his face.

The incident wasn’t penalised because Klein said he couldn’t be certain, with Munster trying to defend himself to the referee who just put it all on report and moved on.

Biting is heavily frowned upon in rugby league, with Dragons playmaker Kyle Flanagan copping a four-match ban earlier this year for an incident involving Bulldogs skipper Stephen Crichton.

Alamoti went through with the accusation on the field but softened his stance after the game when he realised the gravity of the situation.

“That’s nothing, it’s all in the past now,” he said.

“Whatever happens on the field stays on the field.

“A lot of boys were high on energy in high stakes. It’s just the competitor in everyone.”

Storm coach Craig Bellamy didn’t want to comment on the situation after the game, with Munster now at the mercy of the match review committee.

Any potential ban would eat into the 2025 season given he’s unlikely to play in the Pacific Championship.

“If he thinks that he was bitten then I suppose he’ll say it,” Bellamy said.

“I saw a little bit of it but I haven’t seen it (properly) and I haven’t spoken to Munster about it.

“I’m sure they’ll work it out.”
