Perth and WA weather: West Australia set for stronger winter cold front, possible severe thunderstorms

A severe weather event is set to smash parts of WA this week, with the Bureau of Meteorology warning it will arrive “with a bit of a bang”.

Meteorologist Angus Hines announced the news on Monday of yet another winter cold front approaching Perth.

The cold front is expected to hit the city on Wednesday evening but Mr Hines told residents to expect a more brutal storm than normal.

“Once we get to the evening and into the night, that’s when that cold front will arrive and it’s going to bring with it a bit of a bang as well,” Mr Hines said.

“Rain with some pockets of heavy falls, thunderstorms including some severe thunderstorms which could bring us damaging wind gusts, lightning, thunder and hail all possible.”

Mr Hines said this cold front will likely be stronger and windier than the one that hit on the weekend, with more than 50mm of rain forecast for parts of the South West.

Mr Hines told West Aussies, particularly those in the South West, to keep an eye out for weather warnings.

“We could well see some Severe Weather Warnings get issued ahead of this event so do keep your eyes out if you’re in the south-west of the country,” he said.
