Perth Royal Show 2024: Woodchop World Titles at Claremont Showground to attract nation’s finest

The eyes of the woodchopper world will be focused on Claremont Showground on Monday when the Woodchop World Titles are held in the Main Arena.

Featuring softer wood and modified axes, the 2024 edition at the Perth Royal Show attracted thousands of fans over the weekend, thrilled by the high-octane efforts of Australia’s finest.

And it was worth their while for such woodchopping luminaries as Victorian lumberjack Laurence O’Toole and local father-daughter team Tod and Molly Bergersen to venture to Claremont, with more than $40,000 prize money on offer.

This is the first year the competition used a softer wood than jarrah, after bushfires and a halt to native logging made native hardwood scarce.

It prompted competitors to change their axes and was expected to lead to faster times to chop through the log.

For those gnawing to see the lumberjacks in full swing, the carnival will have daily events in both the Woodchop Arena and Main Arena throughout the show.

The World Title fight will start at 5pm.
