Perth weather forecast: Strong front to bring rain, damaging winds and potential for severe thunderstorms

After a week of wet and rainy weather, the sunshine has finally graced Perth — but it won’t hang around for long.

The city reached a top of 21.1C on Monday just after 2pm but the clear skies will disappear soon.

Gusty winds and rain are set to hit Perth on Tuesday afternoon and residents are being told there’s also a potential for severe thunderstorms.

“We have a much stronger front out in the west that’s forecast to push through the Perth area during the afternoon, bringing really gusty winds, showers and even the potential for severe thunderstorms bringing damaging wind gusts about the coastal fringe,” Bureau of Meteorology meteorologist Sarah Sculley said.

Temperatures are expected to remain relatively the same, with a top of 21C forecast for Tuesday.

On the other side of Australia, ski resorts are expecting snow to fall in the Alpine area and Canberra temperatures will plummet to a freezing -2C.

PERTH FORECAST:

Tuesday: 21C, rain and chance of storms

Wednesday: 20C, rain

Thursday: 19C, chance of showers

Friday: 21C, chance of showers

Saturday: 23C, chance of showers

Sunday: 23C, rain
